Mohan's works capture the idyllic rhythms of rural life interwined with timeless folklores; the bashful glance of the almond-eyed village belle and the dreamy musings of the cattle-herd. His works are pictorial renderings of the rural charms of the village in which he was born and till today lives and works in, namely Ghodkem, Salcette, South Goa .
His paintings bespeak the tranquillity and harmony between man and nature where the cattle-herd and his catttle blend in with the sunbathed meadows as the village women commune under the shade of trees discussing their daily domesticities which they accept with the stoic dignity that the timeless existence of rural life bestows on them.
We could probably glean glimpses of the theme and structure of Rajput miniature paintings in his work with the detailed flora and fauna forming the background for a simplified two-dimensional representation of rural life.
However the stylization of human figures in their lanky delineations, the tubular cattle, the tall sun-filtered trees and the many-tinted palette which bathe his paintings in yellow-ochre mornings, saffron evenings or the silvery still coolness of moonlight is very 'Mohan Naik'.
